At least 10 coaches of the Dibrugarh-Chandigarh Express, bound for Assam's Dibrugarh derailed on Thursday near Gonda in Uttar Pradesh. Taking cognizance of the incident, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district administration officials to reach the site and expedite the relief work.
Meanwile, the Aam Aadmi Party criticised the PM Modi-led government saying that the "lives of the people are being lost in train accidents continously, while Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnavi is busy making reels."
"After all, for how long will the people of the country continue to bear the brunt of the inefficiency of the Modi government?" the party posted on X.
Meanwhile, UP CM Yogi Adityanath posted on X that the officials had been directed to carry out rescue operations on a war footing.
"The train accident in Gonda district is extremely sad. District administration officials have been directed to carry out relief and rescue operations on a war footing and to take the injured to the hospital on top priority and provide them proper treatment," Yogi stated.
CM Yogi Directs Officials To Transport Injured To Hospital
A statement by the UP CM's office stated that Yogi Adityanath has instructed the officials to transport the injured to hospitals for proper medical care and treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also been briefed about the derailment of the express train in UP.
"HCM is monitoring the situation and the Government of Assam is in touch with relevant authorities," a statement from the Assam CM's office said.
The train derailed at around 2:37 pm today near the Gonda-Mankapur section in UP. The reason behind the incident is yet unknown.
CPRO North Eastern Railway said that helpline numbers have been issued and the medical vans of the Railways have reached the spot, where a rescue operation is underway.
Two persons were killed and several others are said to have been injured in the derailment.
Congress Wishes Speedy Recovery To Injured
Reacting to the incident, INC posted on X: "A sad news is coming from Gonda, UP. Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailed. People are reported dead and injured in this tragic accident. May God give peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured."
The party has also requested its workers to extend their cooperation in relief and rescue work, the post read.
