Known for his leadership skills and pragmatic approach, Devendra Fadnavis is now a pivotal figure in Maharashtra politics. His father's imprisonment during the Emergency had a profound impact on him. Born into a middle-class family in Nagpur, he started his political career at a young age, joining the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), in 1989. He completed two consecutive terms as Mayor. In 2013, Fadnavis was appointed as the president of BJP in Maharashtra. This was a position that increased his political influence. In 2014, he became the 18th Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
Fadnavis's political acumen was further demonstrated when he took oath as Deputy Chief Minister in the coalition government led by Eknath Shinde in 2022.
