Developments In Afghanistan Have Implications For Region: NSA Ajit Doval Calls Out For 'Close Consultation'

In the meeting, he said that the recent developments in Afghanistan have important implications not only for the Afghan people but also for its neighbours and the region.

New Delhi: National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Wednesday chaired an eight-nation security dialogue regarding the ongoing Afghanistan crisis.

In the Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan meeting, NSA Doval said that the recent developments in Afghanistan "have important implications not only for the Afghan people but also for its neighbours and the region."

NSA Doval asked for "close consultations, greater cooperation, and coordination" within the regional nations on the Afghanistan issue. 

As per the PTI report, the security chief of Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan are attending the Delhi Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan Crisis.

India is holding the conference to seek regional cooperation for confronting threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking, radicalism following the Taliban's take over Afghanistan.

"I am confident that our deliberations will be productive, useful and will contribute to help the people in Afghanistan and enhance our collective security," Doval was quoted by PTI in its report.

In his address, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia said, "The multilateral meetings help in discussing issues linked to development situation in Afghanistan; counter challenges, threat emanating from the country, and establish long-lasting peace in the country."

Expressing concern over the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, Karim Massimov, Chairman, Kazakhstan National Security Committee said, "We're concerned about the prevailing situation in Afghanistan. The social end economic situation of Afghans is deteriorating  and the country is facing a humanitarian crisis; it's necessary to increase humanitarian assistance."

"With the Taliban movement coming into power the situation inside the country remains complicated. There are many obstacles to forming an effective government. The terrorist organisations are intensifying activities," he further adds.

Referring to the importance of the NSA-level meet in New Delhi, Charymyrat Amanov, Secretary, Security Council of Turkmenistan said, "This meeting gives us the opportunity to find out a solution over the prevailing situation in Afghanistan, and to establish peace in this region."

The Secretary of Security Council of Uzbekistan, Victor Makhmudov said, "To restore peace in Afghanistan and in the region altogether, we have to find a collective solution. It is possible only through joint efforts."
