Delhiites Will Have To Wait For Monsoon, Know Latest Weather Updates 

Monsoon can strike in Delhi after five days. According to the Meteorological Department, due to the hiatus in the further progress of the Southwest monsoon, Delhi may have to wait for the showers. 

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier predicted that the monsoon would enter Delhi 15 days before its scheduled time, but this prediction did not prove to be true. Now the Department has said that the onset of monsoon in Delhi can be possible after 5 days. On Sunday, The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that due to the slowing down of the Southwest monsoon, the arrival of rainfall in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh is delayed. Also, there is no possibility of monsoon for the next five days in Punjab, western UP and the remaining areas of Rajasthan.   

Monsoon delayed due to mid-latitude westerlies 
The earlier forecasts of the Meteorological Department said that the monsoon will arrive in Delhi and Northwest India by June 15. If this were the case, then the monsoon should have arrived in these areas 15 days ahead of time. The Department had said that due to the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, the monsoon was likely to arrive 15 days earlier. But according to the IMD, the westerly trough has affected the progress of the monsoon. National Weather Forecasting Center scientist RK Jenamani said that there is no possibility of monsoon coming in Delhi and surrounding areas for the next 5 days. He said that the western wind pattern is not conducive, which is weakening the monsoon.  

41 percent more rain without monsoon 
The IMD has said in its bulletin that the earlier arrival of Southwest monsoon is no longer visible in the areas of Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab. Because on a large scale the wind direction is unfavourable. As per the forecasts, there is no indication, in any numerical models, that these regions will receive monsoon. As per the Department, although the monsoon is yet to arrive in many parts of the country, India has already received 41% excess rain between June 1 and 20. Northwest India has received 83% excess rainfall during this period, while central India has received 67%, and the southern peninsula has received 28% excess rainfall.
