In the national capital, mercury touched a maximum of 12.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, which is 6.8 degrees below normal at the Safdarjung observatory, as reported by news agency PTI.
Earlier on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department said that persistently low cloud cover and the absence of sunlight over the region led to the maximum temperatures in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and north Madhya Pradesh dropping to below normal, in the range of 2–6 degrees Celsius, PTI reported.
Large parts of northern India have been experiencing severe cold-day conditions for the last few days. On Friday, cold wave conditions and dense fog were witnessed in Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad.
