New Delhi: In what comes as a big setback for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Election Commission on Tuesday issued a notice to Anurag Thakur over his controversial "goli maaro" slogans raised by him during an election rally in the national capital, last week. According to reports, the poll panel has found him to be in violation of the Model Code of Conduct and Thakur has been given time till 12 pm on January 30 to reply.

A similar notice has been sent to West Delhi BJP MP Parvesh Verma, a day after he openly threatened protesters of Delhi's Shaheen Bagh, saying that it will take the BJP only an hour to clear off the protests in the area if it come to power in the national capital.

EC notice comes soon after Delhi Election Commission, earlier in the day, took cognizance of alleged breach of moral code of conduct by BJP MP and star campaigners of Delhi election Parvesh Verma and Minister of State Anurag Thakur.

The office of Delhi Election Commission said the Chief Election Officer of Delhi has submitted its report to the Election Commission of India on the suspected violation of model code of conduct by Verma and Thakur.

The notice was issued after the Delhi CEO on Tuesday submitted a report to the EC on the 'provocative' language used by Thakur while canvassing for a party candidate contesting the Delhi Assembly polls in Rithala.

At the rally, Thakur, the Minister of State for Finance, shouted "desh ke gaddaron ko" to which the crowd responded "goli maro sa*** ko" (shoot down the traitors). Thakur was addressing the meeting in support of BJP candidate from Rithala, Manish Chaudhary.

He raised the pitch of nationalism as he linked opposition parties with anti-CAA protests in Shaheen Bagh and with alleged anti-India slogans, and then asked the crowd to raise the incendiary slogan.

While on the other hand, Verma raised the spectre of Shaheen Bagh's anti-CAA protesters in their lakhs entering homes to rape and kill women. The BJP MP had also asserted that Shaheen Bagh protest site will be cleared in an hour on February 11 if his party comes to power, also said what happened in Kashmir with Kashmiri Pandits could happen in Delhi too.
