15-Year-Old From Kanpur Arrested For Hoax Bomb Threat To Pune Airport

In another incident, on January 16, a 15-year-old from Kanpur district in Uttar Pradesh triggered a major security scare with a prank call to Pune airport, claiming that 40 planes would be bombed while flying over residential areas of the city, news agency IANS reported.

The teenager, inspired by videos of the Palestine-Israel war, used his father's mobile phone to make the threat call on January 11.

Following the received call, IndiGo authorities promptly notified Delhi Police who alerted the Intelligence Bureau. Subsequently, the Intelligence Bureau passed on the relevant details to the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police, prompting swift action by the Kanpur police. The investigation was then escalated with the involvement of the crime branch to unravel the case.

According to IANS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (crime) Salman Taj Patil informed, “We have taken the boy in police custody and seized the mobile phone. No threat has been found in the primary investigation. The boy took the step out of ignorance. He will be sent back home after counselling his parents and other family members.”
