New Delhi: Four fresh cases of positive coronavirus have been reported in the country, increasing the figure to 43, officials of the Health Ministry said on Monday.  One new case each has been reported from Kerala, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, the officials said, adding that no deaths have been reported yet.

"As of today, there are 43 total cases (3 positive cases from Kerala which are now discharged), out of which 40 are active cases of COVID-19 in the country. 4 (Four) new cases of COVID-19 have been reported since yesterday’s update – 1 (one) from Ernakulum, Kerala, 1 (one) from Delhi, 1(one) from Uttar Pradesh and 1 (One) from Jammu," the Ministry said in its statement.

The 5 cases from Kerala, reported yesterday, are 3 family members with travel history to Italy and 2 of their relatives who came in contact with them. The family is reported to have visited relatives and attended few functions and their contacts are being traced as we speak, the statement read.

43 samples have tested positive out of the 3,003 samples tested for COVID-19 with 2,694 samples having returned negative results, it stated.

In Jammu and Kashmir a 63-year-old woman tested positive for coronavirus, making her the first confirmed case in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Monday.

The Health Ministry is yet to confirm the case of a three-year-child in Kerala. Officials in Kochi said on Monday that the child, who has returned from Italy with its parents, has tested positive for the disease.

The deadly coronavirus has caused deaths of over 3300 people globally.

On Sunday, the number rose up sharply as five new cases were added from Kerala and the total number of people infected by the coronavirus then went up to 39.

Five of a family tested positive for coronavirus in Kerala on Sunday. With this, the state on Sunday sounded an all-around alert, with the police warning that those who come from countries where coronavirus is raging and fail to report to health authorities will be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Dhaka trip was cancelled as Bangladesh also confirmed its first three positive cases of coronavirus. The country also postponed inaugural ceremony of the birth centenary celebrations of its founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman after 3 coronavirus cases.
