Covid Update: After recording the lowest surge in new Coronavirus cases India has again witnessed a 36 per cent spike in daily Covid cases. The country has reported 38,353 new cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload is currently at 3,86,351 which is the lowest in 140 days. The recovery rate now stands at 97.45% as informed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
497 infected people have lost their lives in the last 24 hours as informed by the Health Ministry. At the same time, 40,013 people have recovered from the virus decreasing the active caseload by 2,157 cases.
More than 54,91,647 vaccine doses administered in the last 24 hours increasing the total vaccination count to 51,45,00,268, informed the health ministry.
More than 53.24 crore (53,24,44,960) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far, and a further 72,40,250 doses are in the pipeline. Of this, the total consumption including wastages is 51,56,11,035 doses, as per data available at 8 am today, the health ministry also revealed.
Kerala's TPR reaches 16 per cent
Kerala on Tuesday reported 21,119 fresh COVID cases pushing the total infection caseload to 35,86,693, with the test positivity rate in the state rising close to 16 per cent. The number of people who succumbed to the virus rose to 18,004 with 152 more deaths.
As many as 18,493 people have been cured of the infection since Monday, taking the total recoveries to 33,96,184 and the number of active cases in the state to 1,71,985, a state government release said.
Maharashtra registers surge in cases
After recording around 4000 cases for few days, Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 5,609 coronavirus positive cases and 137 fatalities, including the highest 46 in the Pune region, while 7,568 patients recovered, a state health department official said.
With the new additions, the tally of infections and the death toll in Maharashtra rose to 63,63,442 and 1,34,201, respectively, the official said.
