Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday addressed all the Gram Sabhas and Panchayati Raj Institutions across the country to commemorate National Panchayati Raj Day. During his address, the Prime Minister said his government is constantly working to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system in the country. He added that whatever schemes the government has made to make life easier for rural India, the panchayats are realising them on the ground with full dedication.

Earlier, the Prime Minister attended an exhibition along with Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Rewa.






Speaking on the budget alloted to panchayats, PM Modi said, "before 2014, the budget allocated for panchayats was less than Rs 17,000 crores. Our government has increased the same to more than Rs 2 lakh crores." He also said that previous governments destroyed panchayati raj system but we raised grants to panchayats.


PM Modi embarked on a two-day power-packed tour on Monday starting from Madhya Pradesh. The Prime Minister is in MP for the celebration of National Panchayati Raj Day in Rewa. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects worth over Rs 17,000 crore here. PM Modi is expected to participate at around 11:30 am. During the event, Prime Minister will inaugurate an integrated eGramSwaraj and GeM portal for public procurement at Panchayat level.


As per a release from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the objective of eGramSwaraj – Government eMarketplace integration is to enable the Panchayats to procure their goods and services through GeM, leveraging the eGramSwaraj platform. 


"With the aim of taking forward people's participation towards ensuring saturation of schemes of the government, Prime Minister will unveil a campaign named “विकास की ओर साझे क़दम” (Together towards development). The theme of the campaign will be inclusive development, with focus on reaching the last mile," the release added.
