New Delhi: National Students Union of India (NSUI), which is the student wing of the Congress party, has filed a 'missing person' report with the Delhi Police naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several of his Union Cabinet ministers, accusing them of absence and inaction amid the Covid-19 crisis.
The move comes barely two days after a similar complaint was put up against Amit Shah alleging the "disappearance of the country's Home Minister at the time of the pandemic".
NSUI General Secretary Nagesh Kariyappa has submitted the missing person report against PM Modi, Union ministers Nirmala Sitharaman, Piyush Goyal, Smriti Irani, S. Jaishankar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, Narendra Singh Tomar, Prakash Javadekar, Harsh Vardhan, and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at the Parliament Street police station in the national capital.
In the complaint, he alleged that all these BJP leaders were last seen during the Assembly elections in West Bengal; adding that at a time when the second wave of Covid pandemic is raging across the country, Modi and his Cabinet ministers have turned a blind eye to the sufferings of the people.
The NSUI leader has said that in the darkest time of the pandemic, the Prime Minister and his cabinet ministers are running away from the crisis situation.
He also questioned the saffron party over its achievement in the last seven years of governance, stating that it has been able to survive by coming up with "jumlas" and making fake promises.
"People are even struggling to get a place to cremate the dead. Where are the so-called leaders who had assured to make India a global leader, but have instead made people suffer like this?" Kariyappa said.
NSUI chief Neeraj Kundan has also alleged that the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues are missing in action while people are in dire need.
"They should have been on the forefront when a number of people have died due to Covid largely because of lack of medical equipment," Kundan said.
These statements come as Congress is attacking the Central government after the Delhi Crime Branch Police on Friday questioned President of Indian Youth Congress Srinivas BV in connection with alleged “illegal distribution of Covid medicines”.
Former party president Rahul Gandhi slammed the government writing that "the rescuer is always greater than the one who kills".
How will BJP respond to this backlash by the Congress and its members, remains to be seen.
