NEW DELHI: Targeting Election Commission over the change of its conference timing, Congress' Randeep Singh Surjewala on Friday questioned EC's independence. Surjewala in a tweet accused that the shift in time schedules by Election Commission was only to accommodate Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ajmer rally. The EC had first announced that a conference would happen at 12.30 pm on Saturday afternoon, but it was later rescheduled to 3 pm. On Twitter, he wrote - "3 Facts- Draw your own conclusions. 1. ECI announces a PC at 12.30 today to announce election dates to the 5 states. 2. PM Modi is addressing a rally in Ajmer, Rajasthan at 1 PM today. 3. ECI suddenly changes the time of announcement and PC to 3 PM. Independence of ECI?"Surjewala said the people are under attack by their own government and the economy was in doldrums with the rupee sliding everyday. On who will be the prime minister after the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, he said "the people will decide". "But, it will be a people's government and not be at war with the people," the Congress leader said. In the Rajasthan state, the prime minister will address a public meeting at Kayad Vishram Sthali on the outskirts of Ajmer at 1 pm. The event which is organised on the completion of Raje's Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra Saturday. Earlier, Sachin Pilot Friday said the prime minister remembers the city only at the time of elections. He also accused Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje of misleading the prime minister on the state of affairs in Rajasthan. "Modiji is coming to Ajmer, but he remembers the city only at the time of elections. He visits Ajmer to seek votes, Pilot told media. Raje would have indeed misled the prime minister on development in Ajmer, he added.
