New Delhi: Launching a scathing attack on Congress over the remarks of party leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam on Hindu and Lord Ram, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the grand old party is “allergic” to Lord Ram.

Taking to X, he wrote, “Senior Cong leader and family loyalist, Acharya Pramod ji confirms what I have been saying- Fearing a particular vote bank, Congress is “allergic” to Prabhu Shri Ram. Before polls, you will find their leaders and so called Hanuman Bhakts visiting every temple *except* Shri Ram Janmabhoomi. My challenge remains -when will they visit Ram Lalla Virajman ? My sympathies with Acharya ji, Congressis will abuse him for speaking in favour of Prabhu Shri Ram.”

His remarks come in the wake of the senior Congress leader claiming there are members within the party who hate Lord Ram and Hindus.

"I have felt that there are some leaders in Congress who hate Lord Ram. These leaders also hate the word 'Hindu', they want to insult Hindu religious gurus. They don't like that there should be a Hindu religious guru in the party," Acharya Pramod Krishnam said. He made the remarks just months ahead of the consecration ceremony at Ayodhya Ram temple.

Responding to the Congress leader’s comments, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said it is evident from Krishnam’s words that the Congress nurtures hatred for the Hindus. He also referred to the recent remark of DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin’s statement on Sanatan Dharma. Udhayanidhi had courted controversy over his remarks calling for eradication of Sanatan Dharma.

“The one and only Hindu Dharma Acharya on Congress side, who is also close to Gandhi family…if he says this then that means hatred that Congress nurtures against Hindus has become full...their biggest ally in Chennai recently in their speech called for eradication of Sanatan Dharma...It is clear that Congress's ideology is against Hindus dharma and Lord Ram,” Trivedi told news agency ANI.

Meanwhile, Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely said Krishnam has only expressed his opinion and Rahul Gandhi is the biggest example that proves the grand old party respects every religion.

“Whatever Acharya Pramod Krishnam has said is his personal opinion...Congress respects all religions and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is the biggest example of it,” ANI quoted Lovely as saying.
