New Delhi: A clash among the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University on Sunday evening left many injured. As per ANI, the members of the All India Students Association (AISA) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) indulged in an argument regarding a meeting in the student’s union hall which ended up in an alleged clash. The argument took place around 9:45 on Sunday evening.
Gaurav Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Southwest, said that a complaint was received at the Vasant Kunj police station regarding the apprehensions of a “quarrel.” “On inquiry, it was learned that heated arguments took place between two groups of students on account of organising a seminar in a student union hall,” said another police official.
Students from both organisations have filed complaints, said the official. “Both the sides are leveling allegations against each other of disrupting their meeting and initiating quarrel by another side. Further, an inquiry is on and legal action will be taken accordingly,” he added.
However, there is no official complaint from Jawaharlal Nehru Student’s Union (JNUSU) as yet. According to the police, an investigation is underway, and the injured students are undergoing treatment at the AIIMS hospital.
ABVP is affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and AISA is affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Lenin) liberation. The groups are known to often clash with each other on campus.
In January 2020, a similar clash between the students had left many students injured. In 2018 as well, the students from both the organisations had indulged in a clash after the student’s poll results were announced.
