The Supreme Court on Thursday got a new and bigger creche with a capacity to accommodate at least 100 kids of lawyers working in the court. Chief Justice Of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, while presiding over his bench praised the new creche which he inaugurated today.

While presiding over the bench, the CJI apologised for being late to the hearing as he was busy inaugurating the new creche. The CJI urged the lawyers to check out the new creche, which he said has a separate feeding area, changing area and a sleeping area.

CJI Chandrachud while talking to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that he should go and see how beautiful the new creche is.

"I know you won't be using it...but you must go and see the creche." the CJI told SG Mehta.

Justice PS Narasimha who was also part of CJI's bench said that even you all will feel like being there. "Even you all will feel like being there," said Justice Narasimha.

SG Mehta at this point joked that he will visit the creche and probably wait for the day a judge calls his arguments childish so he can use it. "When Lordships say my arguments are childish, I will," SG Mehta remarked.

The CJI also mentioned that a new, hi-tech branch of the Bank of Maharashtra will be unveiled today at the Supreme Court premises.

CJI Chandrachud inaugurated a new creche for the staff working in the Supreme Court of India. He said the new creche will benefit the young men and women lawyers. Earlier creche was about 200 square meter for 30 children but now it's close to 400 square meter for nearly 100 kids.

"We have such a large number of young lawyers who come here everyday to work. We have almost 2,500 members of the Supreme Court...This creche can accommodate around 100 children," CJI Chandrachud said.
