Chirag Paswan, Supporters Detained During Protest Seeking Suspension Of Nitish Kumar Govt

The march had started in the historic Gandhi Maidan, and Paswan and his followers were held near the Income Tax roundabout on their way to Raj Niwas.

New Delhi: Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan was detained by Patna Police on Tuesday along with his followers during a protest march seeking the suspension of the Nitish Kumar government.

Chirag Paswan and his supporters had begun the march from the historic Gandhi Maidan and they were detained near the Income Tax roundabout while proceeding towards the Governor's house, PTI reported.

Police said they attempted to disperse the demonstrators by erecting a barricade near the Bihar Museum, but when they attempted to break it down, they were detained. Paswan and his supporters were taken to the Sachiwalaya police station.

Manavjit Singh Dhillon, senior superintendent of police in Patna, told PTI that it was preventive detention and Paswan and his supporters were released later in the day. They were released after filing a personal bond.

The march had begun from the historical Gandhi Maidan. They were freed after providing a personal bond.

Prior to his arrest, Chirag Paswan, the son of LJP founder and former Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, told reporters that the Nitish Kumar administration had failed on all fronts, including providing employment to youths, maintaining law and order, education and health. It should be immediately suspended, he said.

Paswan and his supporters carried placards, which read "Bihar Bachao" (Save Bihar), and said they wanted to give a memorandum to the Governor against the Nitish Kumar government. They were rounded up by the police and taken into preventive custody before being released later.
