New Delhi: Ahead of the festival season, the DDMA has announced that no Chhat celebrations will be allowed in public places, on river banks in Delhi in view of the Covid pandemic.

The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has issued fresh guidelines for the upcoming Chhat festival, reported PTI.

DDMA has said that no fairs and food stalls will be permitted in the national capital during festivals.

The DDMA guidelines further stated that no standing or squatting will be allowed at festive events in Delhi and only sitting on chairs with social distancing will be permitted.

This comes after the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) on Tuesday ordered a complete ban on the sale and bursting of all types of firecrackers in the national capital till January 1, 2022.

The DPCC has also directed District Magistrates and Deputy Commissioners of Police to implement the directions and submit daily action taken reports to it.

"Several experts have indicated a possibility of another surge of COVID-19 and largescale celebrations by bursting of firecrackers will result not only in agglomeration of people in violation of social distancing norms but also a high level of air pollution leading to serious health issues in Delhi," the order read.

"There will be a 'complete ban on bursting and sale of all kinds of firecrackers up to 1.1.2022 in the territory of NCT of Delhi," the DPCC's order stated.
