The ISRO Mission Control Centre in Bengaluru reverberated with chants of 'Vande Mataram' and jubilant celebrations as the Chandrayaan-3 mission successfully landed on the lunar surface. The Chandrayaan-3 lander module gracefully touched down on the moon's southern pole on Wednesday, igniting waves of elation at the ISRO Mission Operations Complex in Bengaluru.
The joyous celebrations were a testament to the tireless efforts of the dedicated scientists who worked day and night to ensure the success of Chandrayaan-3, news agency ANI posted a video on X (formerly known as Twitter).

This victory, however, was not without difficulties, as ISRO dealt with the fallout from Chandrayaan-2's partial failure in 2019. The final 15 minutes of the 15-minute descent, dubbed the '15 minutes of terror,' were filled with fear. Despite this, Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander landed gracefully on the moon's surface at 6:03 PM.
"India is on the Moon," exclaimed Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chief S Somnath, encapsulating the nation's pride in this remarkable achievement. With the successful lunar landing of Chandrayaan-3, India joined an exclusive club, becoming the fourth country to do so and the first to venture near the moon's southern pole. While the nation's attention was focused on this historic event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was attending the 15th BRICS Summit in South Africa, congratulated the ISRO team on their extraordinary achievement.
ISRO Chief S Somnath relayed the historic news to Prime Minister Modi, who responded by proudly waving the Indian flag. P Veeramuthuvel, Project Director of Chandrayaan-3, expressed his "immense satisfaction," while the Mission Director expressed gratitude to every member of the team, emphasising the team effort that led to this historic success.
"We have become the first country to go near the South Pole of the Moon," Veeramuthuvel declared, summarising Chandrayaan-3's accomplishment.
