New Delhi: The Centre will launch its mega Covid-19 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign against Covid-19 on Tuesday on the occasion of Dhanwantari Diwas. The door-to-door vaccination campaign will be carried out for a month and aimed towards full vaccination in poor-performing districts.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed about the 'Har Ghar Dastak' campaign earlier saying it was an attempt by the Centre to ramp up vaccination. “We are going to launch a mega vaccination campaign ‘Har Ghar Dastak’, Mandaviya said.

“We have decided that for the next one month, healthcare workers will go door-to-door to vaccinate people eligible for the second dose and also those who have not taken the first dose,” Mandaviya added.

According to the minister, 77 percent of the eligible population in India has been vaccinated against the deadly disease with the first dose while 32 percent of people have received both jabs.

“More than 10 crore people have not taken the second dose of vaccine,” the minister informed. “People who are eligible for the second dose should take the vaccine,” he added. Stressing on the need to boost the pace and coverage of vaccination, the minister said there are more than 10.34 crore people in the country who have not taken the second dose after the prescribed interval.

With several countries reporting fresh cases of Covid-19 cases, the need to ramp up vaccination drive in India to reduce severity becomes important.

India continues to maintain the downward trend as India reported 12,514 Covid 19 cases, 12,718 recoveries and 251 deaths in last 24 hours as per the health ministry. Kerala has reported a marginal decline in Covid cases as the state registered 7,167 fresh COVID-19 cases and 167 related deaths in the last 24 hours. The daily surge in cases raised the caseload to 49,68,657 and the fatalities to 31,681.
