Members of Parliament of Opposition Parties in Rajya Sabha raised slogans and walked out of the House over the Maha Kumbh stampede issue.

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav said, as quoted by news agency ANI,"...The incident took place because of the mismanagement of the administration. The eyewitnesses say that thousands were killed in the stampede...Families are not getting bodies, no action has been taken against the officials...We have given notices here but they have been rejected..."

TMC leader Sagarika Ghose stated that the opposition parties gave notices under rule 267 but the BJP government refused to provide details about the stampede. She said, "We want the truth on what happened at the Kumbh Mela. Evidence is coming out that there was not only one stampede but there was a second stampede. There are not just 30 people died but many people have lost their lives. All the opposition parties gave notices under rule 267 but the BJP government is refusing to give us the truth. How many have died? This is a crime, what is the BJP government not telling us how many have died?"

RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha also took potshot at the UP government and said that people want accountability and the matter should be discussed in the House. He said,"The matter of concern is that the entire country is worried about the people who have lost their lives...Kumbh used to take place even before them and Kumbh will take place even after them. Kumbh is a thing of continuity but political party is not...People want accountability...This should be discussed in the House."

On January 29, a stampede occurred at Sangam on 'Mauni Amavasya' during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. Several devotees lost life and many were injured in the incident.
