New Delhi: After being lashed overnight by heavy rains following a cloudburst, the water level in Yamuna River rose alarmingly sweeping away the main connecting pedestrian bridge of Yamunotri Dham.

The two shops of the temple committee located near the dham also got damaged due to the strong current.  At least 10 shops were also swept away in the route from Janaki Chatti to Yamunotri Dham.

Damage to the 20 meter long stretch of the bridge near the Ram temple has made the place inaccessible. The national highway connecting to the Dham has also been damaged after a landslide.

After three hours of struggle, the Barkot roadway was managed to be opened.

As of now, residents living near Yamuna bank in Janaki Chatti have been relocated to safer places. The vehicles standing near parking have also been shifted by police.

No casualty has been reported in the incident. The administration has alerted SDRF and disaster management team.
