At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the 14th BRICS Summit hosted by China in virtual format on June 22 and June 23, news agency ANI reported. The BRICS summit will includes a high-level Dialogue on Global Development with guest countries on June 24. Chinese President Jinping will host the 14th BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Summit in Beijing, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson announced last week.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the discussions during the 14th BRICS Summit are expected to cover intra-BRICS cooperation in areas such as counter-terrorism, trade, health, traditional medicine, environment, S&T and innovation, agriculture, technical and vocational education & training, and MSMEs.
Spokesperson Hua Chunying said the Summit will be held in virtual format under the theme of "Foster High-quality BRICS Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development", Xinhua news agency reported.
The Dialogue will be held in virtual format under the theme of "Foster a Global Development Partnership for the New Era to Jointly Implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", and BRICS leaders and leaders of relevant emerging markets and developing countries will attend the event.
Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the BRICS Business Forum in virtual format and deliver a keynote speech on June 22, Hua added.
In May, the Chinese premier had said that Beijing is willing to work with all countries, including the BRICS nations, to promote common development around the world.
"Given the fragile global economic recovery, widening development gap and serious challenges such as climate change and digital governance, the BRICS nations should remain true to the bloc's founding purposes and work with other developing countries to rise to challenges and open up brighter futures," news agency IANS quoted Jinping as saying.
