New Delhi: The Maharashtra Home department has decided to withdraw all cases filed under IPC 188 during the lockdown against students and other citizens for violation of the lockdown order.
The home department has taken this decision which will be tabled in the cabinet this week. If approved, the process of withdrawal of the cases will begin. Maharashtra's home department is headed by Dilip Walse.
The country went into a lockdown on March 24, 2020, due to the spread of covid-19 in the country.
Initially, the lockdown was imposed on a national level for a period of 21 days which was later extended to months as the country was grappling with the infection threat.
Gradually, as the cases went down and the country went ahead to face more waves of the covid-19 infection, the lockdown and other restrictions were being controlled on the state level as per the situation.
Maharashtra was one of the adversely hit states and consequently imposed a lockdown for a longer period of time.
Over the period, as cases decreased, now the state has lifted the lockdown but permission from authorities is needed for certain activities like social gatherings which involve more than 1,000 guests.
Other restrictions in the state were lifted after the Omicron threat started fading away earlier this year. However, the condition for many activities still requires a vaccination certificate.
Maharashtra on Monday recorded 110 fresh covid-19 cases with no new fatalities. The current active cases in the state are 964 in a total of 35 districts.
