New Delhi:  A residential building collapsed in Delhi's Malkaganj area on Monday afternoon. Rescue teams have been rushed to the spot and one person has been saved till now. According to the latest updates, many families were inside the building including children when the building collapsed.


It is yet to be determined about the number of people who are trapped under debris. Several auto rickshaws were parked beside the buildings which have been damaged after the collapse. 


According to ANI, the residential building was four-storey and the incident happened around noon.



NS Bundela, Joint CP, Central Range,Delhi reached the spot to take stock of the situation. He said that the teams of local police, MCD, NDRF among others are present to undertake rescue operation.


He said, "We need time to assess number of people stuck under debris. One person rescued so far. He sustained a head injury & has been sent to hospital".


The Delhi Fire Service received a call about the incident at 11.50 am, said Atul Garg, the director of DFS.

Total seven fire tenders were rushed to the site, he added.

Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he is closely monitoring the situation.

"The incident of building collapse in Sabzi Mandi area is very sad. The administration is engaged in relief and rescue work. Through the district administration, I am myself monitoring the situation," he tweeted in Hindi.
