New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janat Party (BJP) has, on Saturday, made it clear that it will not put up a candidate for Mayor post, post the BMC result, which gave a fractured mandate.

The party said that they will also not put deputy Mayor and will support Shiv Sena. (Shiv Sena got 84, BJP 82 votes in BMC election).

"We will not put up a candidate for Mayor or Deputy Mayor for BMC", said Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis.

He also said that the party has no intention of seating in opposition.

"We will not be in the opposition,we will support the ruling party but will not compromise on transparency", CM said.

It may be recalled that the Brihanmumbai Mahanagar Palika (BMC) election, 2017 which took place on 21 February 2017, saw the ruling Shiv Sena was voted as largest party in elections.

However, BJP did immensely well by jumping from 31 to 82 seats. BJP-Shivsena can easily get a clear majority. Indian National Congress had fallen to 31 seats. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena dropped to 7 seats.
