Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that the senior doctors of the Post Graduate Institute Rohtak will conduct a video conference with all doctors who are dealing with Covid infected patients and discuss about the treatment of mucormycosis or black fungus.

Black fungus cases were reported last year as well from across the country and a couple of people lost their lives due to mucormycosis.

Mucormycisis is a fungal infection triggered by COVID-19. Black fungus or mucormycosis has been a cause of disease and death of patients in transplants, ICUs and immunodeficient patients since long. The government said in its advisory that is a fungal infection that mainly affects people who are on medication that reduces their ability to fight environmental pathogens, informing them that the infection might turn fatal if not provided proper treatment.

With a number of mucormycosis cases detected in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, experts in the national Covid-19 task force on Sunday issued an evidence-based advisory on the disease.

Symptoms include - pain and redness around eyes and/or nose, fever & coughing, headache, shortness of breath, bloody vomit and/or altered mental status. People are advised, to use masks if you are visiting dusty construction sites, wear shoes, long trousers, long sleeve shirts and gloves while handling soil (gardening), moss or manure and maintain personal hygiene, including thorough scrub bath.
