New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday attacked BJP over issues of inflation and unemployment saying that the government should run its bulldozer over these problems, rather it is carrying “hatred and terror.”
“Inflation and unemployment have left the people of the country gasping. The government should run a bulldozer over these problems of the people. But the bulldozer of the BJP is carrying hatred and terror,” Gandhi wrote in a loosely translated tweet in Hindi.
Gandhi’s bulldozer jibe came after the Khargone district administration in Madhya Pradesh started the demolition of at least 50 “illegal” structures belonging to people accused of pelting stones at the Ram Navami procession.
The state government said that the damages caused to public and private properties during the violence will be covered from rioters, reported the news agency PTI.
The officials told PTI that more than 80 people have been arrested after stones hurled at the Ram Navami procession led to large-scale arson in the Khargone district.
On the occasion of Ram Navami on Sunday, violence took place in many parts of the country leading to the death of one person and injuries of 12 others at Lohardaga in Jharkhand. Meanwhile, a curfew was imposed following the stone-pelting and arson in Khargone.
Gandhi’s attack on BJP was backed by senior Congress leader P Chidambaram.
"Lord Ram is celebrated as Maryada Purushottam, which means the epitome of righteousness. On Lord Ram's birthday, acts of intolerance, violence and hate are committed," Chidambaram said in a tweet.
"The highest leaders of the country refuse to hear or see the evil of spreading hate. Their mouths are shut. Every day, we are becoming a less free country. All right-thinking people should condemn the violence and the intimidation unleashed by self-appointed guardians of the country," he added.
