BJP President JP Nadda Stern On Implementing CAA Soon, Attacks Mamata Banerjee's 'Divide And Rule' Politics

BJP national president J P Nadda Monday said the execution of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) has been delayed due to the pandemic and asserted that the law will be implemented soon.

Siliguri: At a public meeting in Siliguri, BJP President JP Nadda made it clear that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Will be implemented very soon. The process was delayed due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the implementation of CAA got delayed. But as the situation is improving slowly, work has started and now the rules are being framed. It (CAA) will be implemented very soon.”, he said while addressing a meeting in Northern Bengal.

On taking a dig at the Mamta Banarjee government, he accused Mamta of playing “Divide and Rule” politics for her personal interest.

Mamta Banarjee West Bengal Chief Minister has been opposing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship (Amendment) Act from day one. One of the most vocal critics of the CAA & NRC bill she made it clear to the people of West Bengal that she won’t let anyone come in between and take away the rights of the citizens. They had to pass through the dead body before doing that and even claimed herself as the “Pehredaar” (Custodian) of the state.

She even took her protest to the streets of Kolkata, Darjeeling, and other parts of the state against the CAA and NRC. A Diehard supporter of the Anti-CAA and NRC protest, Mamta Banarjee took her protest to another level after the West Bengal Legislative Assembly passed the resolution, asking the center to withdraw the CAA after Kerela, Punjab, and Rajasthan.

In an out of the box move the two-time Chief Minister of the West Bengal along with other artists, even took up the brush and created paintings to express dissent against the amended Citizenship Act and proposed NRC exercise.

In order to stand out alone, she even cornered herself from the left parties as they called for “Bandh” (Strike), claiming the “Bandh” would burden the state exchequer and will cause a lot of trouble to the normal people. “Our government never supported any bandh. We support their (Left) issues, but not the bandh. We will continue with our movement (against CAA and NRC). All parties should believe in the democratic movement,” Mamta Banarjee said.

The CM added the country is already going through an economic crisis. “Bandh will harass people more. I can’t support the harassment of the people.”

Banerjee, a staunch critic of the BJP, has been at the forefront of anti-CAA protests. The TMC supremo has so far led multiple protest marches and several rallies in various parts of the state against the CAA and the NRC.
