New Delhi: In an extremely appalling conduct, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Saturday slapped a young wrestler during the Under-15 National Wrestling Championship in Jharkhand capital Ranchi.

The BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Kaiserganj Lok Sabha constituency slapped the young overage wrestler as he was defiant on participating in the championship.

This took place as the wrestler, who was reportedly stopped from participating in the championship as he was above 15 years, got into an argument with the BJP MP when he arrived on stage.

Singh later lost his cool and slapped the wrestler from Uttar Pradesh as he remained rigid and refused to get off the stage.

The BJP MP later came under sharp criticism for his behaviour after the video of the incident went viral on social media.

Several Twitter users condemned the MP’s behaviour calling it an “arrogance of power” and lambasted the ruling BJP.

“Indian wrestling association chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh slaps a young wrestler. The young wrestler should have behaved with this thug politician the same way he behaved with him. These idiots are high on arrogance of power,” wrote a Twitter user on the micro-blogging platform.

“JHARKHAND: Fresh shocker from the BJP! BJP MP & Wrestling Federation of India President, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh slaps young wrestler on stage. Can a public servant (BJP MP) manhandle the common man? What message the BJP is sending to the country?” tweeted another.

Several wrestlers too expressed their ire over the BJP MP’s behaviour and demanded an apology from him for his offensive act.
