New Delhi: Only days after attaining victory in Lok Sabha elections, Unnao Member of Parliament Sakshi Maharaj on Wednesday spurred a massive controversy as he visited the main accused in Unnao gangrape case.

As per reports, Sakshi visited MLA Kuldeep Senger in Sitapur jail on the occasion of Eid, where he has been locked up on the charges of committing the gruesome crime.

As per sources, the jail was not open to visitors on Wednesday, but the jail authorities still permitted Sakshi to visit on a holiday.  The sources say that MP Sakshi had gone to visit Senger in order to thank him for the “support and help” in winning Lok Sabha elections.

The matter which is current being handled by the Central Bureau of Investigation came to light after the victim tried to immolate herself outside UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's residence alleging police inaction against rape accused BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar.

Later the rape victim’s father Pappu Singh succumbed to injuries after being allegedly beaten up by Sengar’s supporters. Police had earlier arrested Sengar's brother Atul Singh and four of his aides - Baua, Vineet, Shailu and Sonu for beating the girl's father to death.

Allahabad High Court on later rebuked the UP government for being tardy in arresting BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, despite an FIR against him.
