Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey has said that Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee likes people like Dawood Ibrahim, who are traitors after the latter backed party MP Mahua Moitra in the alleged cash for query scam. He said if Dawood Ibrahim fights from Azamharg in UP, he would win and "if Mamata Ji's theory is correct, this means that Dawood Ibrahim is not a traitor".

His remarks came after CM Mamata, for the first time on Thursday, spoke on the cash-for-query allegation on Mahua Moitra and said it would help the TMC MP in elections next year.

"Their (BJP) plan is to remove Mahua Moitra (from Lok Sabha). This will help her become more popular before the elections. What she used to speak inside (Parliament), now she will speak outside..." Mamata had said.

Reacting to it, the BJP MP said, "If Dawood Ibrahim also contests from Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, then I think there is a 99% chance that he will win the election. So, if Mamata Ji's theory is correct, this means that Dawood Ibrahim is not a traitor. She (Mahua Moitra) didn't provide login credentials to just Darshan Hiranandani. It was logged in from multiple places—Delhi, Bengaluru, San Francisco. This is a big conspiracy... It is the history of the INDI alliance that they like corrupt, traitorous individuals like Dawood Ibrahim."

Notably, it was Nishikant Dubey who had filed the complaint against Moitra to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
