Several former bureaucrats, retired army officers, and civil servants joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday during a membership drive held at the residence of senior BJP leader and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri. BJP leaders Neelkant Bakshi and Sardar Impreet Singh were also present during the induction event.


The officers who joined the saffron party also include India Habitat Centre president and former ambassador Bhaswati Mukherjee, ex-Jharkhand Director General of Police (DGP) Nirmal, and retired IRS officers Saroj Bala, RK Bajaj, Gunjan Misra, Vijay Singal, Ashwani Garg, and Dinesh Chandra Agrawal.


Former member of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), former member of the former Vice Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, former CMDs of Maharatna Public Sector Undertakings, the former Chancellor of Maulana Azad University, and noted academicians, were also among those who joined the BJP today.


The newly-inducted BJP members expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also lauded his vision of developed India (Viksit Bharat) while addressing the media. They also slammed the forces that aim to divide and disrupt the country's unity as they expressed their disappointment over the remarks made by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during his US visit, a statement by the part said.

They further pledged to promote BJP’s message within their circles and in the larger community, stressing their promise to contribute towards nation-building by joining the world’s largest political party.

The event was part of BJP's ongoing membership campaign, under which the party aims to enrol 100 million members. Named 'Sangathan Parv Membership Drive- 2024', the membership drive is slated to run for 40 days. It was launched officially by PM Modi on September 2 in Delhi.
