Trinamool Congress leaders and workers held a protest at the Rajghat in Delhi against the Centre, alleging a lack of fund allocation for MGNREGA and other social security schemes for West Bengal. The Bharatiya Janata Party slammed the TMC over the protest, saying that the MGNREGA fund is not with the Centre, it is in the houses and flats of TMC's ministers and MPs.
BJP MP Locket Chatterjee said that the TMC is not doing any demonstrations in Bengal, where so many atrocities are happening against women. Chatterjee said,"I am surprised that they are not doing any demonstration in Bengal where so many atrocities are happening with women. Youth are not getting a job, they are not demonstrating against it. Now these people have brought so many people and started a circus in Delhi. What is in Delhi?... This money (MGNREGA West Bengal fund) is not with the central government. It is in the houses and flats of TMC's Panchayat head and Panchayat deputy head, MLAs, Ministers and others. Everyone knows this."
On Tuesday, the TMC workers are likely to hold a protest against the Centre for what it claimed was the center's failure in the disbursement of funds to the state for MGNREGA, AWAS Yojana, and other schemes. TMC leaders, including Abhishek Banerjee were seen addressing the media at Raj Ghat in the national capital.
BJP MP Sukanta Majumdar said, "As you said there's no audit... Let me give you some data with which you will understand why TMC is concerned with MGNREGA funds. As you know the money of the 15th Finance Commission has been given to states. Full funding is by the central government and with this infrastructural development takes place. Let's see West Bengal's account for 2020-21, Rs 2480 crore was sanctioned by the central government only Rs 441 crore has been used by the state government... It is an order from the Ministry of Women and Child Development to give every ICDS woman a mobile for a 'Poshan tracker'... This money was sanctioned two years ago...Not a single worker of ICDS got the mobile phone."
