Patna: The demand for a caste-based census proposed in the year 2021 is being strongly raised. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking time to talk about this issue.

The chief minister had written a letter to PM Modi on August 3, to which the chief minister has received a reply on August 13. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has admitted to receiving the letter. But no information has been given as to when he will meet to discuss the caste census.

Meeting will take place when PM gives time

Talking to reporters on Monday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said, "The reply to the letter was received on the 13th. He stated that he received the letter. So when the letter is received, the Prime Minister will give time when he thinks it is appropriate. Will meet whenever he gives time. We will wait for now. Until then, it will not be appropriate to talk about it".

It is not right to make a decision without dialogue

He said, "Now that the letter has been received, we are hopeful, we will get the time." "We will talk if we get the time. But the final decision has to be made by the Centre itself. It will be clear only after talking to the Prime Minister that whether we should conduct the caste census ourselves or not. But we would like it to be conducted from the central level itself. It is not right to take decisions without dialogue. It happened once in 2011 but could not be published due to discrepancies," he added.

Caste census, in the interest of all

The chief minister said, "The caste census will not harm anyone, it will be beneficial to all. Once we are able to find out how many people belong to which caste, we will be able to work in a better way for their security and upliftment. Once we receive the figures, a discussion about development for all can be done in the right direction. That is the idea in everyone's mind."
