Patna: In what may embarrass Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led government and give the opposition fresh ammunition to take on ruling NDA, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA on Thursday alleged that money has been taken openly by the sitting ministers during transfers in Bihar this time.

Demanding an investigation into the matter, Barh MLA Gyanendra Kumar Singh alleged that most of the BJP ministers are involved in this.

“Each officer was called around five times and asked to give money for transfer. Those who did not get the transfer even after giving money have also complained. The department officials have also said that money is being taken openly. Despite the Secretary’s opposition of the, this work is being done,” he said.

The MLA further alleged that the name of a JD(U) minister, who is related to the engineering department and recently joined the Chief Minister’s party from another party, is coming to the fore in this whole matter.

“There is a growing chorus among the engineers of his department that he took money rigorously,” he said.

Singh further said that he would brief the Chief Minister, who is recuperating from ill health, about this matter as soon as he recovers.

“I have not met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar due to his ill health, but I will tell all these things to him as soon as he recovers. This time only a few ministers of the JD (U) are involved, but most of the BJP ministers are involved in this,” said Singh.

“It is because of Nitish Kumar that all these things are under control in the JD (U). At the same time, the minister involved has not even been able to know Nitish Kumar completely,” he added.

When asked to disclose the names of the BJP ministers involved in this, the MLA said that he would reveal the names at an appropriate time.

“As of now, this is enough. I had many people come to me from whom money has been taken for lobbying,” Singh said.

“There is an alliance government now. In such a situation, the person whose name the party will put forward will become the minister. Nitish Kumar has not made anyone a minister by himself,” he added.

When asked the government in Bihar will fall in view of this controversy, the BJP MLA said there is no threat to the NDA government.

“The government will move ahead with more cautious approach. Whatever the opposition keeps saying, the government will run for five years,” he added.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) cornered the Bihar government on the issue and sought an explanation from the Chief Minister.

“The BJP MLA has exposed the corruption prevailing in the government. Now, the people of the ruling party should answer. The BJP leaders are also making the same allegations that the Leader of Opposition was continuously leveling,” RJD spokesperson Mrityunj Tiwari said.

Tiwari alleged that “80% of the people in the government are corrupt”.

“In such a situation, the Chief Minister should answer that how is the game of corruption happening? Now, the leaders of the ruling party are questioning the government. This is a serious issue as the BJP MLA has alleged and those who loot the hard-earned money of the people of Bihar will not be given so much relaxation,” he added.

The controversy comes as Bihar witnesses a large-scale transfer of government employees and officers at the end of June every year.

Over 15,000 office bearers from various government departments in Bihar were transferred earlier on June 30.

There has always been politics in the state regarding transfers. The opposition leaders have often been accusing the JD (U) leaders of extorting money in the name of transfer and posting.
