New Delhi: A statewide shutdown in Bihar (Bihar bandh) is called by left-wing groups including the CPI-ML on Thursday to mark protest against the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case and the increasing instances of crime in the state.

The effect of the Bandh was witnessed in Jehanabad where a train was halted by the activists.  They stopped the Patna-Hatia Jan Shatabdi express and demonstrated protests. While the train was stopped, the activists also got into an argument with RPF personnel.

Other than CM Nitish Kumar’s resignation, the Bandh supporter demanded that the CBI probe of the Muzaffarpur rape case be monitored by Patna High court judge.

The CPI-M is being supported by the Bihar’s main opposition party RJD, Congress and other left parties.

Taking a precautionary step, many schools suspended classes for today. In capital Patna too, after 10 am markets at main locations are likelyto remain shut. Business center may also remain closed and many auto-rickshaw bodies have also announced support to the bandh, leading to a snagged public transportation.
