New Delhi: After President Droupadi Murmu accepted Bhagat Singh Koshyari's resignation as Governor of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aaditya Thackeray called the decision a big win for Maharashtra. "Big win for Maharashtra! The resignation of the anti-Maharashtra Governor has finally been accepted! He constantly insulted Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mahatma Jyotiba Pule and Savitri bai Phule, our Constitution, Assembly and democratic ideals, cannot be accepted as a Governor!," Aaditya Thackeray said in a tweet.






Nationalist Congress Party's Maharashtra chief Jayant Patil welcomed the resignation of Bhagat Singh Koshyari from the state governor's post and said they hope the new occupant of the Raj Bhavan here would not be a "puppet of the BJP". 


Reacting to Koshyari's resignation, NCP leader Jayant Patil in a tweet said, “I hope the new governor would not be a puppet of the BJP like the previous one (Koshyari). We welcome the decision of the Union government to change the Maharashtra governor as it was the demand of the Maha Vikas Aghadi.” “The previous governor had lowered the stature of his post by making controversial remarks against social icons from the state as well as conducting swearing in ceremony of the current unconstitutional state government. We welcome the news of appointment of a new governor of Maharashtra,” he added.


The Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday announced the names for appointment on the post of 12 Governors for states and one Lieutenant Governor in the Union Territory of Ladakh, as reported by ANI.


The statement from Rashtrapati Bhavan stated that President Murmu has given her acceptance to the resignations of Bhagat Singh Koshyari as Governor of Maharashtra and Radha Krishnan Mathur as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.


Ramesh Bais, the Governor of Jharkhand has now been appointed as Governor of Maharashtra, while, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.), who is the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh has been appointed as Lt. Governor of Ladakh.


The statement also informed that Justice (Retd.) S Abdul Nazeer has been appointed as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh. Reacting to the change of Governor in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Sanjay Raut said changing the Governor isn't a favour to Maharashtra as many Governors have been changed.


“Changing the Governor isn't a favour to Maharashtra, many Governors have been changed. It's been a year since the people of Maharashtra were demanding a change of Governor because of his (BS Koshiyari) remarks on Shivaji Maharaj and Savitiribai Phule,” ANI quoted Sanjay Raut as saying.
