Former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao's daughter and BRS MLC Vani Devi on Thursday appreciated PM Narendra Modi's decision to posthumously honor her father with the Bharat Ratna, the nation's highest civilian award. Vani Devi stated that Narasimha Rao belongs to the entire nation. She mentioned the persistent calls she has been receiving from Maharashtra and Odisha as Rao was elected as a Member of Parliament from those states. In addition, she was also receiving calls from Delhi.

"Everyone is happy. He is not only a son of Telugu soil but he belongs to the whole nation," she said, as reported by news agency PTI.

Highlighting Narasimha Rao's tenure as Prime Minister during challenging times, she emphasised his implementation of reforms that garnered global recognition. "Beyond parties, recognising PV and conferring Bharat Ratna shows the good values and manners of our Prime Minister (Modi)," Vani Devi further stated.

She  highlighted that Narasimha Rao, who was in the Congress party when he became the PM of the country, started reforms and discovered long-term fixes for issues in a variety of areas, including the economy and foreign policy. "Though there is a slight delay, it's ok. Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian honor. Telangana people are very happy over Bharat Ratna being conferred upon Narasimha Rao. The family members are overwhelmed. We are very excited," she added.

She conveyed gratitude that the previous administration, led by former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, had commemorated Narasimha Rao's centennial with great fanfare.

She recalled that the first leader of the southern states to be appointed prime minister was Narasimha Rao. He was elected to Lok Sabha from Ramtek in Maharashtra and Berhampore in Odisha and also from Nandyal and Hanumakonda in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
