A 39-year-old cab driver immolated himself outside his estranged wife’s house following a domestic dispute in Bengaluru’s Jnanabharathi area on Thursday. Later, the driver, identified as Manjunath H, succumbed to his injuries.

Manjunath, a resident of Tumakuru, was married to Nayana Raj and the couple have two sons. However, they had been living separately due to issues and Nayana had filed for divorce.

S Girish, DCP West Bengaluru, told ANI, "A 39-year-old cab driver namely Manjunath allegedly died by suicide by setting himself on fire outside his estranged wife's home. There have been disputes between the husband and wife and they were staying separately. The wife namely Nayana Raj had filed for divorce."

The DCP stated that Manjunath had visited Nayana Raj's house multiple times in the past, pleading with her not to proceed with the divorce and promising not to fight with her again. He would often shout while standing outside her house.

"Yesterday, Manjunath went to her house in the morning and Nayana Raj refused to open the door. Angered by this, Manjunath returned to her house at 11 pm and allegedly set himself on fire. Investigation underway," he said.
