New Delhi: Banks will remain closed for almost 11 days next month which also includes weekends, as per the list of holidays released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).


It is to be noted that the four bank holidays will be observed due to festivals apart from Sundays, the second and fourth Saturday. However, online banking services will remain functional even on holidays.

The holidays are categorised by the central bank as national and regional under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Negotiable Instruments Act and Real-Time Gross Settlement Holiday, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. Some of the holidays are specific to particular regions and vary from state to state.


There are two long weekends in May as banks will remain closed for three days in a row on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and Buddha Purnima.


Those who have crucial bank-related tasks pending in the bank should refer to the list of holidays to avoid any inconvenience.


Bank Holidays In May 2022


Public and private banks remain closed on Sundays. So banks will remain shut on May 1,  May 8, May 15, May 22  and May 29. 


On May 2, the banks in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram will remain closed on the occasion of Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra).


On May 3, banks will remain shut on the occasion of Bhagavan Shree Parshuram Jayanti/Ramjan-Eid (Eid-UI-Fitra)/Basava Jayanti/Akshaya Tritiya across the country except for Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram


Banks in Kolkata will be closed on May 9  to celebrate the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.        


On May 16  banks will remain closed on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.             


May 14  will be a holiday due to the second Saturday while banks will remain shut on May 28 due to the fourth Saturday.
