New Delhi: Here is agood news for the commuters of Delhi metro, which has become the lifeline of people in the national capital. The Azadpur is likely to become the second Delhi Metro station to cater to three different corridors by 2023.
The Delhi Metro Yellow Line and Delhi Metro Pink Line presently converge at the Azadpur station. Reports suggest the 28.9 km long Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg corridor, an extension of the Magenta Line, will also have a station at Azadpur in the Delhi Metro phase IV project. This will make Azadpur the only triple interchange station after Kashmiri Gate.
As per plans, the new elevated metro station will be linked to Azadpur’s existing elevated Yellow Line station and Pink Line halt by foot over-bridges.
The DMRC has marked the site for the upcoming metro station and the construction work for the same will begin in due course.
Azadpur would, however, not be in the same league even after getting a triple interchange facility tag as Kashmere Gate in terms of footfall. This as the Kashmere Gate metro station caters to a daily footfall of around 2.5 lakh currently while Azadpur caters to around 15,000 passengers per day.
