Nellore: Scores of people gathered at Krishnapatnam village in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district on Friday for distribution of an ayurvedic cure for the coronavirus.

With arrangements such as counters and queue-lines marked at the venue along with ensuring physical distancing, a large number of people were seen waiting impatiently for distribution to begin.

This as YSR Congress Party’s Sarvepalli MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy had earlier announced that the medicine would be distributed from Friday morning onwards.

The medication prepared by local ayurveda practitioner B. Anandiah has been attracting the people from the surrounding areas over the last few days.

The distribution was, however, halted after the Lokayukta stepped in following reports that Covid norms were being violated by the locals.

There is, however, no scientific evidence to justify the drug is effective. While some samples have been sent for testing, to a laboratory in Hyderabad, the results are still awaited, IANS reported.

The district administration had earlier formed a committee, consisting of the AYUSH doctors, to evaluate the efficacy of the concoction.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is said to have been apprised of the situation, is expected to decide on the matter.
