Assembly Elections 2021: The polling for first phase of Assembly Elections in the states of West Bengal and Assam will be held on Saturday (March 27) amid high security as the high voltage campainings by political parties reach a crescendo. Both West Bengal and Assam is expected to witness a high-voltage electoral battle with Election Commission directing all officials in poll-bound states to ensure free, fair and peaceful polling. 

On Saturday, states of West Bengal and Assam will go for first phase polling. In West Bengal, electorates will exercise their franchise in as many as 30 constituencies, while Assam will go for polls on 47 seats in the first phase. 

It is to be noted that Assembly Elections in will be held in eight phases starting March 27 in West Bengal and 3 three phases in Assam amid strict Covid-19 protocols at polling booths. Adequate arrangements have been done by the poll body to ensure social distancing norms and other standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Polling in remaining seven phases will take place on April 1 (30 seats), April 6 (31 seats), April 10 (44 seats), April 17 (45 seats), April 22 (43 seats), April 26 (36 seat) and April 29 (35 seats). Results will be declared on May 2. The 294-member West Bengal Assembly will expire on May 30.

Polling on the remaining two phases will take place on April 1 (39 seats) and 6 (40 seats). The 126-member Assam Assembly is set to expire on May 31.

Meanwhile, campaigning for the first phase of Assembly Elections in West Bengal and Assam concluded on Thursday. Amid high-decibel political campaigning, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) aims to dethrone Mamata Benrjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, while looking to retain its hold in Assam.
