New Delhi: NITI Aayog’s vice-chairperson Arvind Panagariya could be appointed as the next RBI governor. A formal announcement regarding this could be made within 24 to 48 hours.

RBI governor Raghuram Rajan tenure is ending on September 4 and he has refused government’s offer of another term.

PM Narendra Modi is currently on tour to Africa and a formal announcement to this effect could be made after his return.

Who is Arvind Panagariya?

Arvind Panagariya was a professor in Columbia University. He has worked in World Bank, IMF, WTO and the United Nations. He is known for supporting PM Modi’s economic policy. He has written 10 books in his career. He is currently NITI Aayog’s vice-chairperson.
