Sandip Ghosh In Hong Kong: Former principal of RG Kar Medical College Sandip Ghosh reportedly faced action in a sexual assault case in Hong Kong seven years ago. He was accused of molesting a male nursing student in Hong Kong in 2017. However, a magistrate's court acquitted him in the case.


Sandip Ghosh was arrested by the CBI after he was accused of corruption at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. He was earlier being interrogated in the case related to the rape and murder of a junior doctor at RG Kar MCH on August 9. He was presented before a special CBI court on Tuesday where protesters hurled abuses and slogans against him.

According to a South China Morning Post report, in 2017, a nursing student in Hong Kong had alleged that Sandip Ghose patted his buttocks and tried to touch his genitals in the changing room. Some Kolkata doctors told India Today TV that the man accused of molesting the nursing student in Hong Kong is the same man who is now in CBI custody after the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder.


Sandip Ghosh reportedly worked at the Yau Ma Tei hospital for barely a few days as his two-month clinical exchange programme was scrapped due to the trial.


What Was The Hong Kong Case Against Sandip Ghosh?


According to SCMP, Sandip Ghose had gone to Hong Kong in 2017 as part of an exchange programme. On April 8, 2017, a student nurse at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kowloon, Hong Kong accused Sandip Ghose of the sexual assault. The nurse testified that Ghose asked him, "Do you like it," after making inappropriate physical contact.


The report said that at that time Sandip Ghosh was in Hong Kong as part of a clinical attachment programme at the hospital. A report by Bengali news portal Ei Samay said that at that time he was the chief physician of the orthopaedics department of Murshidabad Medical College. In 2018, Sandip Ghosh was made the principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.


What Did Sandip Ghosh Say In Court?


Sandip Ghosh denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty in court. He claimed the incident was a misunderstanding. According to Ghosh, he was trying to show the nurse how to fix a shoulder bone by pulling his arm and accidentally touching his hip. He said his words were misinterpreted due to his accent and he said, "Do it like this" and not "Do you like it".
