Hyderabad: At least 10 people died in a limestone quarry explosion in Andhra Pradesh's Kadapa on Saturday. Several people are feared trapped under the debris.


According to a report by Hindustan Times, the incident took place at Mamillapalle village of Kalasapadu block this morning.


All the victims are quarry labourers. 


The explosion happened due to Gelatin sticks near Mamillapalle village in Kalasapadu area of Kadapa district.


The gelatin sticks were brought from Budwel.


It is being said that the incident happened when the workers were unloading Gelatin sticks at mines near Mamillapalle which exploded

"It is a licensed limestone mine and certified operators had brought the consignment.

The blast occurred when the sticks were being unloaded," Anburajan said from the accident site.

The cause of the mishap was yet to be established.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke to the Kadapa district officials and enquired about the explosion.

He expressed grief over the death of the workers and extended sympathies to the bereaved families, a CMO release here said.


The toll is expected to go up as the dismembered bodies lay strewn all over the blast site.
