Four passengers died and several others suffered injuries in a road accident on the outskirts of Chittoor town on Friday. The mishap occurred reportedly when the bus was hit by a truck, which later led the passenger vehicle to overturned and hit a electric pole. The injured were immediately shifted to CMC Hospital in Vellore.
According to Srinivas Rao (Inspector), Chittoor East circle police station, "The travel bus overturned after colliding with a lorry on the Chittoor-Thatchur Highway. The bus was en route from Tirupati to Trichy when the accident happened in the early hours. The injured were shifted to Chittoor District Hospital. Those critically injured were later moved to CMC Vellore for advanced treatment."

The private bus bound to Madurai was on its way from Tirupati. According to preliminary investigations, overspeeding of the bus is suspected to have caused the accident.
There were 26 passengers in the bus. "Four passengers died on the spot and 15 others sustained injuries. Of them, four are seriously injured and 11 persons sustained simple injuries," Chittoor sub-divisional police officer T Sainath told PTI.
The accident occurred at approximately 11:15 PM on Thursday in Gajulapalli village, Chittoor district, according to officials. The collision occurred when a truck struck the side of the bus, police stated.
The injured passengers were rushed to CMC Vellore, SVIMS, and other nearby hospitals for treatment, Sainath informed. A case has been registered under Section 106 of the BNS Act, and efforts are underway to locate the truck driver, who is currently absconding, police said.
