Amritpal Singh Surrendered Fearing Wife Kirandeep Kaur's Arrest, Stashed Funds In UK: Report

British citizen Kirandeep Kaur, the wife of Amritpal Singh, was reportedly being followed by Punjab Police.

Amritpal Singh, a Khalistani separatist who surrendered on Sunday in Moga, Punjab, following a month-long manhunt, had been under intense strain ever since his wife Kirandeep Kaur was placed under surveillance, according to sources in the Punjab government, India Today reported. British citizen Kirandeep Kaur, the wife of Amritpal Singh, was reportedly being followed by Punjab Police. Three days prior to his detention, his wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped at the Amritsar airport as she attempted to board a flight to London and detained for interrogation.

Kirandeep had a valid visa till July and wanted to flee India before it expired. Amritpal was unable to get out of the nation because he initially wanted to safeguard the safety of his wife and avoid her detention.

According to the report, chief minister Bhagwant Mann observed the operation to capture Amritpal Singh throughout the night, and it was determined around 4 a.m. that Amritpal was encircled with no escape path.

Kirandeep was denied boarding a flight to London on Thursday at Amritsar's Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport.

Amritpal is charged with breaking communal peace, attempting to kill, and assaulting police, as well as violating the strict National Security Act (NSA).

Kirandeep, a UK citizen, was halted at the airport by immigration officers because the Punjab Police had issued a lookout circular (LOC) against her.

According to officials, Kirandeep, who married the extremist leader on February 10, had to catch Air India's (AI 169) aircraft, which was set to depart for London at 1.20pm. Kirandeep was also questioned for three hours by immigration, customs, the intelligence department, and other federal agencies, according to a top Punjab Police officer. Officials familiar with the situation claimed Kaur was attempting to travel to London before her 180-day visa expired. Her parents live in London, and it would have been her first visit to the country since her marriage, according to officials.

Officials claimed she was instructed to return to Jallupur Khera, Amritpal's native village, at 2.45pm after being questioned.
