The Punjab Police on Sunday arrested fugitive Amritpal Singh, 36 days after it launched a massive operation to nab the Waris Punjab De chief following the violence in Ajnala police station. The Khalistan sympathiser is being taken to Assam's Dibrugarh jail in Assam for which, he was brought to Bathinda Air Force Station. After his arrest, several leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party have lauded the Punjab Police action to nab the radical preacher. 


AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora spoke to ABP LIVE about the arrest and said: "Kudos to Punjab Police. Thanks to central agencies for cooperating and helping maintain law and order in the state. Now Law will take its own course."


When asked about Amritpal Singh's following in Punjab, he remarked: "I doubt he has any real following. Anything if shown is just stage-managed. As said earlier, now Law should take its own course."






Soon after the arrest, AAP MP Sanjay Singh lauded the Bhagwant Mann government saying that the way Amritpal Singh has been arrested shows the Punjab government's maturity in handling the case. Speaking to ABP News, he stressed that the people of Punjab will not tolerate misuse of Guru Granth Sahib, referring to the Ajnala incident.

Amritpal Singh Said He Would Appear Before Police: Singh Sahib Giani Jasbir Singh Rode


Singh Sahib Giani Jasbir Singh Rode, at Rodewal Gurdwara in Moga, told news agency ANI that Amritpal Singh came to Gurdwara last night and he told that he will appear before the police after paying obeisance in the Gurdwara. He changed his attire and went to the Gurdwara to address a gathering. "He was arrested at exactly 7 AM today, the arrest did not take place under duress," the cleric said, adding that the police will say he was arrested "but the truth is that he willingly appeared before them."


This comes after Amritpal Singh's wife Kirandeep Kaur was stopped by Punjab Police from Shri Guru Ram Dass International Airport, Amritsar as she was trying to board a flight to London. According to police sources, Amritpal's wife was about to leave for London on the afternoon flight.  She reached the airport to board a flight from Amritsar to Birmingham.


The main aide of pro-Khalistan leader and Waris De Punjab chief Amritpal Singh was arrested in Sirhind on April 15. According to Narinder Bhargav, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Border Range, the aide, Joga Singh, was apprehended in a joint operation of Amritsar-rural and Hoshiarpur police. Joga Singh was with Amritpal from March 18 to March 28, news agency ANI reported.
