New Delhi: At least six people went missing on Thursday while on their way home to remote village Warwan of Kishtwar in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir.


Local officials said a three-pronged rescue operation was launched to locate them.


"Six persons on way home to remote Warwan area of Kishtwar via Margan Top in Anantnag district have gone missing and there is no trace of these missing persons 24 hours after they made last call to their families," said Officials as quoted by PTI.


"One team is proceeding by road along with snow cutter machine and JCB, headed by an SDM accompanied by Tehsildar, MED and NHIDCL officials," they said.


Army rescue teams and another team of local volunteers were moving on foot, according to the officials.


"Helicopter rescue teams are currently ready at Larkipora and are waiting for the weather to improve," said officials.


“It has been around 24 hours since they made their last call from Margan Top but haven't reached their respective homes till now,” he added.


Most parts of Kashmir valley and high height areas of Jammu locale including Warwan and Margan top in Kishtwar experienced moderate to weighty snowfall since Tuesday.
